Terms of Use

Last updated: October 1, 2026

CivicSphere (mycivicsphere.com, the “Site”) is created and operated by Daniel Devine. By using the Site, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Public data and accuracy

The Site’s tools, including the Property Tax Analyzer, the NY State payroll dashboard, campaign finance and Board of Elections data, legislation trackers, and the Contact Your Representative lookup, present information drawn from public government sources, Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) responses, and third-party services such as the U.S. Census Bureau, Congress.gov, and Open States.

That information may be incomplete, out of date, or contain errors made by the original source or in processing. The Site does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any data it displays.

Not professional advice. Nothing on the Site is tax, legal, financial, or real estate advice. Before relying on any figure, such as a property assessment or a tax estimate, confirm it with the official source (for example, your town assessor or the county Real Property Tax Service Agency).

Ownership

The Site’s original content, including its text, analysis, the 12 Points of Good Governance framework, governance assessment materials, design, graphics, and source code, is the property of Daniel Devine and is protected by United States copyright law. © 2026 Daniel Devine. All rights reserved. Underlying public records remain public; this ownership covers how the Site compiles, presents, and analyzes them.

Permitted use

You are welcome to use the Site’s tools for personal, civic, educational, and journalistic purposes, and to quote or share its findings with a link back to mycivicsphere.com.

Restrictions

Without prior written permission, you may not:

Privacy

When you use the Contact Your Representative lookup, the street address you enter is sent to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder and Open States to find your districts. CivicSphere does not store the addresses you look up. If you submit the contact form, your name, email, and message are received through Netlify, the Site’s hosting provider, and are used only to reply to you. If you start a letter from a Civestor Advocacy bill tracker and confirm that you sent it, only the bill and your legislative district are sent to Civestor Advocacy to update its public letter count. Your information is not sold or shared for marketing.

No warranty and limitation of liability

The Site is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Daniel Devine is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Site or its data.

Independence

CivicSphere is an independent civic technology project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency, and links to official sources are provided for convenience.

Changes and governing law

These Terms may be updated from time to time; continued use of the Site means you accept the revised Terms. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
